Harlan Estate
Napa Valley Proprietary Red Blend
Tasted blind. Dark, dark black scarlet color. Opaque times 2. Notes of black cherry, licorice, herbs and violets. Some menthol too. Big and strong in the mouth. Monolithic and still a bit harsh despite being open all day. Not as big a fan of this as others, at least at this point in its evolution.

Mar 5th, 2023Was waiting on a special moment to open this bottle. That came last weekend with @Martin G Rivard, Christine and Jennifer down in Palm Beach. Was amazed at how well this bottle has held up. Comes across as a classic left bank. Pulled the cork and let it breath for about an hour, you won’t be disappointed.

Nov 19th, 2015Wow! I was worried because some 95-97 Cults all have gotten flabby! But this gem still had great acid balance and melted tannins with complex core of spices, leather, fruit compote and nuts. Was 100 points WS/WA and the best Harlan I've tasted to date! I think it might still have a quite a few years left to improve which I generally I would have suspected. Drank at Benu with Yun the Somm and friends!

Jan 14th, 2015Goddammit, this is actually a fantastic wine. I really wanted to call B.S., but it is everything a great wine should be--balanced, silky tannin, fresh acidity, earthy, spice and juicy plum/cherry fruit. Has a long life ahead of it, too.
