Sonoma Valley Merlot

Nicely balanced. Elegant finish. Delicious.

It is Friday night once again and to great the weekend I have opened the 2014 Gundlach-Bundschu Merlot Sonoma Valley Sonoma County. 84% Merlot, 8% Malbec, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Petit Verdot, what the othe 1% is I was unable to find that out.

Upon opening the nose reveals dark juicy fruit, blackberry, black cherry, pomegranate, raspberry, mocha, smokey oak and dry earthy notes.

The palate reveals confirmation of the nose, black cherry, black raspberry, black plum, spice, sweet tobacco, herbs, smokey oak and rich earthy notes.

A very nice full bodied wine with a velvety mouth feel, medium + acidity and medium + grippy tannins that lead to a long fruit filled finish. Have a great weekend with family and friends and please be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

Nice merlot. Plenty of backbone to make this interesting. Not flabby at all but still plenty of fruit and spice.

Too tannic for me

Berry flavors with hints of tea and maybe a little tobacco flavor. Nice finish.

This is one more winery I have wanted to visit over in Sonoma. It's on the list. Magnum of Merlot

Beautiful wine. Ripe strawberry, blackberry, blueberry, and raspberry with dark chocolate, smoke, toast, and tiny hints of violets, lavender, and wet leaves.

You know, this reminds me what Merlot can be all about. No polished, soft, saggy fruit drink here - this has texture and tannin and licorice and herbs. Classic (in the historic sense) Cali Merlot.
