THE best sub-$20 California wine I've had in a while. Primarily Merlot (80%) and Cabernet (17%), this is a exceptional food wine. Espresso and vanilla, and bursting with black cherries. What a value

This pulls no punches when it comes to under $20 Northern California reds. Rich fruit of mostly black cherry and a touch of blackberry, along with mocha, and a bevy of spices, including nutmeg, clove, anise, and vanilla. There's a wild, herbaceous character that makes it clear this is mountain fruit.

Plum compote / prune saucer in the glass. Flavors are nice. Ripe and dark fruits on the tongue. Some woodsy/oaky stuffy. A nice drink.

Primary grape here is merlot, I believe. This leans a little too sweet for me, although extending air did seem to help that a bit. I was hoping this might be a good case buy for events, but I don't think this is my cup of tea.
