Nouvelle Les Rieux Cornas Syrah
Best, most accessible young version of this. Glorious aromas of game, wild olives, pungent violets and stunning blankberry fruit and flower. The nose is out of this world. 9.7 nose. Smells like Cornas via Chambolle. Wow. Palate is so juicy, nimble and elegant with excellent red fruited goodness. Wow the freshness and acidity are so present. Grainy but well formulated tannins. So linear. Finishes very mineral. So classic. The tannins are so elegant and rest on on one’s lower cheeks/jaw. Blown away. So supple yet so classic.

Sep 23rd, 2023Take 2! As they ate my note. Third time this has happened now and all the same way. Seems a new bug is upon us. Gorgeous version of this and the best one yet. Nose of olive, cracked pepper, roasted and smoked meats, black/red berries. Huge granite and mashed violets. Stunningly pretty wine. So juicy and pure with perfect balance between fruit, granite, olive/meat and acid. Elegant and there but not there tannins. Finish could be a bit longer but on pop and pour this is an easy 9.5.

Apr 3rd, 2021High-elevation Cornas grown on white granite; light in weight (and alcohol) but fully ripe and expressive. Red-fruited and floral, with olive, black pepper, mineral complexity, and (faint) barnyard.

Dec 12th, 2020Stunning nose. Lavender, clay, granite, dark flowers, wild game and olive, so expressive. Palate is classically 16 and very refined with dazzling purity and so ultra silky and refined. Grippy and dense but ripe tannin and so pure and balanced. Elegant and long with distinctive mineral notes on the finish. Concentrated and fresh but with the grip and depth to age. Loads of olive throughout. Awesome.

Oct 13th, 2019Drinking well that is showing lots of depth & purity with an ethereal nose of black cherry, raspberry, crushed rock, mineral, iron, olive, lavender & violets. I would decant as it threw off a lot of sediment.
