Cornas Syrah
Stunning out of the gates. Deep olive and granite on the nose. Black olive and blackberry fruit. Palate is so fresh. Like wow fresh. Terrific fruit and granite but also showing some new wood which will breathe out and be perfect by 9PM for Succession. After a few hours it’s silkier, more finessed and has outstanding length

Mar 26th, 2023Smokey, floral, complex notes of fresh hickory chips, prickly purple fruit, licorice, oregano and savory. Pure pure violet. Really silky, tart and subtly massive on the palate, which is also gracefully light from the acids and has the perfect hint of sweetness. Classically balanced. Amazing floral and mineral presence, with fruit in attendance but taking a back seat. Another really great vintage and gem of a wine from Gilles.

Nov 7th, 2021Blue flower perfume. Anise seed. Dusty minerality, granitic. Delicate tannins within a supremely long, tart, palate of purple raspberries. Elegant and juicy body and finish, with a firm mineral spine. Fantastic. Such elegant wine. Subtle and pretty. Nice perception of sweetness. Will only get better.

Feb 22nd, 2021Oh baby is this in the zone. Nose is incredible. Wafting aromas of black olive, black berry fruit with a crystalline purity to it. So dense. So aromatic. Just killing it. Wow. Stunning clarity. Had good luck with Gilles recently. Amazing palate. Just unreal fruit and it’s everywhere! Just saturates with granite infused juicy, lip smacking insanity. So dazzlingly pure. The granite expression is crazy. What a finish. So complex and has that extra that makes it a great vintage. Unreal depth and concentration. Holy shit. This is total genius.

Jan 21st, 2021This is magnificent. Superb nose. Expansive and refined. Floral, herbal, granite, black fruits. Exuberant spice and man that granite. Elite aromas. Soupy dense fruit. A sense of deepness. So good. This is all Chaillot which really shows. The palate is awesome. Young but so refined and massive granitic tannins and massive fruit soak. Young purpley fruit. This is the Mouton-Rothschild of Cornas. The nose is ridiculous after 10 minutes. So detailed and deep. What a palate. This needs 10 years but is so impressive. After 45 minutes 9.5 to 9.6. Best young Gilles ever.

Oct 31st, 2020Pure expression of Syrah. No oak magic here. Translucent purple color with Subtle Provençal herb and meatiness. Less bubblegum than St Joseph which would the closest comparison for me. Would go with all things barbecue.

Jun 27th, 2020Inky ruby. Smoke- and spice-accented cherry liqueur, blueberry and violet scents are complicated by hints of olive paste and cured meat. Juicy and focused on the palate, offering intense black and blue fruit, bitter chocolate and licorice flavors and a spicy touch of cracked pepper. The meaty quality comes back on the finish, which shows solid thrust, strong persistence and well-knit tannins. (Josh Raynolds, Vinous, September 2019)

Sep 6th, 2019Love me some Gilles . From higest parts of Chaillots vineyard. 2015 is awesome. Still young with dark fruit, dark cherry, plum with back palate of lingering black pepper starting to come out. Inviting tannins paired with Cacio e Pepe. I cant quite put my finger on it. But theres something very Italian about this appellation. 😃
