First tasted this wine at the winery in S. Africa. Spotted it here in NC. & picked up a few bottles. A fine Shiraz with herbal notes and a hint of smoke and pepper.

Have always loved this #Shiraz from #SouthAfrica.
Very black olive color in the glass. Slow tears. Aromas are fragrant & rich. Blue/purple flowers with black cherry licorice and tobacco. High mint top notes, maybe parsley. Flavors of caramel, bitter cocoa, dry cherry and quick firm tannin. Some baking spices.

If I am being honest, I expected more from this. I wanted a bigger body with strong dark fruits and good structure. What we have here is a a lot of under-ripened blackberries and some vanilla with a mild structure. Missing the tannins I would want.
I like the spice and balance of oak, but I’m missing the good fruit flavors. It doesn’t drink like a Shiraz and I’m getting too much earth and nuttiness, which doesn’t suit it well.

Blackberry and black licorice spice very pretty bouquet some black earth smooth silky tannins. Very drinkable style simple but pleasant.

Apr 24th, 2013Sooo good especially knowing it’s from Chef Hilton and that I am drinking it with Lori in SG! Did I say it was refreshingly buttery? :)
