Popped and poured. The 2016 Manzone “Gramolere” pours a beautiful garnet with a transparent core. On the nose this was initially quite reticent, revealing very little besides bright red cherry fruit. However, within about 30 minutes and some coaxing, it started to display a slightly darker cherry fruit with abundant roses, fresh basil, alpine herbs, cedar box, sandalwood, coniferous forest, and cinnamon. On the palate, the wine is absolutely bone dry and endowed with substantial structure. The tannins are fierce and the acid is ripping. That being said, there’s an abundance of bright, fresh cherry fruit on the attack that makes the first impression. Otherwise, the wine is earthy with minerals and orange bitters. The savory finish lasts for well over a minute. This is really a wee babe at the moment but I wanted to try one of my bottles while in its relative youth. My next bottle will rest until after 2026 and these should drink well past 2036.

Fresh and fruity. Spicey fruit cake, light tannins. This would appeal to those that are scared off by the robust tannins and heavy fruit of some Barolos. This is more of a burgundy drinkers Barolo..

Crisp - a tinnnny bit fruit forward but good. Served at the right temperature, it’d be good.
