Light and pretty. Raspberry and soft underbrush. Consommé-like in its clarity. Light and precise and very focused.

Great old bottle with a decent fill. Thin, watery, very light and very translucent reddish amber color. Exciting nose. Notes of sweet tobacco, roses, tea leaves, cherries, some raisins and a little. menthol. As old and thin in color as this was, it powered up with structure as it got some air. Has a beautiful old Barolo perfume. After a few hours it began to fade but I can’t complain with how this delivered tonight.

Jun 5th, 2019Tangy blue and red fruit. Very fresh and precise. Hints of leather and soft dried cherry with herbs. Almost translucent in its clarity but with a little cloudiness. A subtle wine but oddly refreshing. Very good.

What a thrill to try this 1967 Conterno Barolo. One could write all day about the many qualities of this wine, but two characteristics really stand out. The first is the distinctive briney quality. The second is the wonderful dry ice tea element that is so attractive in older Conternos. Just terrific.
