So fragrant and fresh. Nose is animated, with loads of fragrant herbs, bitter lemon-lime, gooseberry, stony minerality. Very Loire Sauvignon like. On the palate it’s got nice concentration, fruit, and minerality. Good acids and length. I know little of Greek wines but am very impressed with this.

Top of the line Gavalas single varietiel Assyrtiko from Santorini, very mineral and extremely dry. Perhaps the best Assyrtiko I’ve had - the blue Santorini is surprisingly better than Gavalas’ regular Santorini... In 2017, he bottled in batches rather than all at once so there is a variance for the 2017 vintage, since the bottling was spread over several months. I haven’t tasted all of them, but I’m told the later months are even better than usual, but unless you’ve had the different ones I’m not sure you would be able to tell the difference since there is no apparent markings of which batch each bottle comes from. I bought this one from a market late in the season (after he was sold out already), so it’s possible this was a later month not sure, really a great Assyrtiko!

Not quite the racy style Santorini I'm accustomed to, but round and appetizing.

Dry, crisp, full bodied, medium acidity, blend of orange and olive oil bouquet, perfect paired with a simple, lemon-seasoned white fish (we had it with a grilled sea bass and lemon potatoes).

Crisp fresh citrus, a little pear. Enjoying this delicious wine on the patio of Stella’s in the heart of Charleston SC. Life is good and the jasmine smells sweet!

I kept thinking that I’ve had this wine before but was thrown with the blue bottle. Oh, and the bottle is also awkwardly squarish at the top. Same wine. Different vintage. Different bottle. More tart than I recall the 2018, but hey, I’m drinking this in a pandemic in Chicago vs. in Greece. Lemon. Lime. Salty. Bits of apple. Great wine nonetheless.
