The Gattavecchi family has been making wine in Montepulciano since the1950s, with the purchase of the Poggio alla Sala estate. Ruby with aromas of red berry, herb and floral notes. On the palate tart cherry and raspberry with spice and earthy herb notes. Firm tannins on medium finish ending with some earthy oak. Good now and over next 1-2 years.

Medium ruby color. Aromas of black cherry, cured meat, leather, licorice. Dry. Flavors of black cherry, licorice, cured meat, cocoa, leather. Rich, smooth tannins. Good acidic backbone. Great complexity. Love this wine!

Very astringent wine. Probably not overly so but we tried this one after Barbera so that might threw me off a bit. Bold + tannic,m, so people who enjoy California can really liked this one.
