The 2016 Camarcanda is pretty, open-knit and gracious in its bouquet, although there is a good bit of Cabernet tannin underpinning the dark fruit. Hints of chocolate, mint, sage, tobacco, licorice and blackberry develop in the glass. The 2016 needs a few years to soften, but it is undeniably attractive and inviting. It's hard to say if it is the vintage, or if the style here has moved towards a bit more freshness as it has at Gaja in Piedmont, but the 2016 Camarcanda does seem to have an extra kick of vibrancy over some previous editions. I can't wait to taste it with some bottle age. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, March 2020)

Angelo Gaja, owner of Gaja Winery, began a new venture - Ca'Marcanda, Piedmontese term for “house of endless negotiations”-Blend of 50% Merlot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon & 10% Cabernet Franc, not blended with this mix again. A rich Gaja style wine. Aromas of fruit and earthy spice. On the palate blackberry and cherry flavors with cacao, tobacco and oak notes. Full body, fine tannins, lingering, elegant balance and structure, ending with sweet earthy mineral. Tasting Sample.

Garnet robed with a faintly orange rim, though still fresh and vibrant. Gaja's Ca'Marcanda Ca'Marcanda is a deeply perfumed Bordeaux blend with the scent of wild lilacs, woodsmoke, espresso, and plums. From the stony Ca’Marcanda estate in the Bolgeri, this elegantly crafted red is silky and rich, with fully integrated oak. Dark, with a nice vein of acidity that lends definition all the way to a startlingly long finish that is drenched in roasted black cherries and toast.

'09 vintage Ca'Marcanda.
Very intense nose of mature fruit with a herb like note that is quite persistent. Very fragrant and serious, the nose is really appealing.
Very Bordeaux on the palate, this Gaja is right, long, with a beautiful mid palate. This is not Sassicaia for sure but it's getting there. Loved it

Rockin wine! Great notes of earth, Tuscan sage, roasted pepper medley, and peppered meats. Very nice balance in the mouth with great long aftertaste and finish. Got to try this!
