The 2019 Nerello Mascalese Munjebel seduces with a rich and sweetly scented bouquet of crushed black cherries, dried roses and cloves. It’s silky in texture, enveloping all that it touches with ripe red fruits and spices, nicely framed by saturating minerality, as inner violet florals form toward the close. There are tannins here, but they don’t get in the way; instead, they create a perfectly dry platform where notes of lavender, plum and allspice hover above. The Munjebel is a blend of fruit from Frank Cornelissen’s vineyards across the northern valley of Etna. It aims to please, and it will excel at doing so through short-term cellaring. (Eric Guido, Vinous, June 2021)

It’s alive!!
Started out juicy and after hours opened changed personalities a few times, ending brambly. One of the benefits of natural wines... you get multiple taste experiences.

Deep ruby. Aromas and flavors of coffee, black cherry, rhubarb and quinine. Enters juicy and fresh, then turns rounder and peppery with a hint of residual sweetness on the fresh back end. (Ian D'Agata, Vinous, August 2019)

What Tom said. Same issue with the 2012. Only VA and Tannin. No fruit. Maybe it's past it's drinking window, but I've had other vintages of Munjebel that didn't show anything like this. Not sure what happened but avoid this vintage, sadly. Sorry Frank.

What @Marc Stubblefield said. Very, very enjoyable, even elegant. A step up over the contadino in structure. Dark berries, picked plums, hibiscus, crushed rocks and leather.

I remember when buying these was like Russian roulette. Half the bottles in the case would be bacterial, refermenting disasters, and the other half would be transparent, electric, mainline shots of awesomeness. Well, Frank's a better winemaker now than he was, and I haven't come across a flawed bottle in a few vintages. This sits firmly in the awesomeness camp, with red fruit and hot basalt and so much floral. A little riper than other vintages, though that's not a complaint, just an observation.

The man the legend Frank Cornelissen, this one is 700lts from 2010 vintage & 1,500lts from 2011 vintage and comes from; Contrada Porcaria, Marchesa Soprana, Charanchello & Monte Colla vineyards......
I simply want to thank all those who criticize Frank and "claim" this is "no wine" so we who love it's great attributes can enjoy more of it
