Etna Rosso del Contadino


The crazy man himself, Frank Cornelissen. I’ve been digging these Sicilian wines recently, and thought I’d try one of the big dog natural producers, even if it’s his entry-level juice. This one is about 85% Nerello Mascalese with a field blend of other grapes grown on Etna. Tart cranberry, singed brown sugar, fresh strawberry, and some wet underbrush (like the smell of leaves after it rains). The palate is super zingy with refreshing acid, more tart cherries and cranberries, and a touch of a cola note. This wine shows what people mean when they say that natural wine is alive - it’s multi-dimensional, funky fresh, and delicious all at once. Can’t wait to try his higher end wines.

Jul 10th, 2018Funky brambly and wild red berry fruit. Smoky scorched earth and spice. High acid palate with medium tannins. More crunchy tart fruit and a suggestion of fizz. Nice!
