The crazy man himself, Frank Cornelissen. I’ve been digging these Sicilian wines recently, and thought I’d try one of the big dog natural producers, even if it’s his entry-level juice. This one is about 85% Nerello Mascalese with a field blend of other grapes grown on Etna. Tart cranberry, singed brown sugar, fresh strawberry, and some wet underbrush (like the smell of leaves after it rains). The palate is super zingy with refreshing acid, more tart cherries and cranberries, and a touch of a cola note. This wine shows what people mean when they say that natural wine is alive - it’s multi-dimensional, funky fresh, and delicious all at once. Can’t wait to try his higher end wines.

Tart berry fruit and smokey volcanic terroir. Most easygoing of the lineup. Shout out to @Marisa Reisman and @Levon Kololyan for organizing an incredible tasting

I have enjoyed Cornelissen’s wines before and this is no exception. Beautiful color in the glass. Might have guessed burgundy from the nose. Excellent balanced red fruit with complementary earth. Perfect a bit on the cooler side. Expressive and delicious with a long finish. Nice.

So this is as untouched a wine as you can buy. Has some real earthy and organic flavors but not overpowering and undrinkable. Super tasty with a bit of a chill. We were purchasing for $25. Good light red wine for summer.
