François Raquillet
Les Naugues Mercurey 1er Cru Pinot Noir
Soaring nose of wet earth, sour cherries, wild spices, sweet blackberries, mint, and just superbly aromatic. Palate is super precise, loaded with sweet/sour cherry fruit and loads of crunchy minerality. Stunningly pure and deep. Terrific length. Will age wonderfully.

Jan 12th, 2019Very very expressive nose. Black cherry, almost kirsch like with lovely intensity. Great nose. Spice, mint and earth intermingled as well. Just lovely. Palate is dense and complex, typical of Nauges, with black cherry fruit that is focused and fresh. Sappy and very lively on the back end. Velvety and ripe but big Nauges tannins. Very pure. Sweet. A bit young, still, as 12 was an epic Nauges. Still has backbone for 10-12 more years. Best showing yet

Nov 12th, 2018The 2016 Mercurey Les Naugues 1er Cru has a superb bouquet with very precise scents of raspberry, red cherry and a touch of fennel. The palate is very well balanced with a crisp line of acidity, a little ferrous in style with ample finesse on the finish. This is an excellent Mercurey from François Raquillet. (Neal Martin, Vinous, July 2018)

Nose is weird off the bat. VA? That is a stank for sure. Under that brambley red fruits. Earth and mineral. Weird. Palate is sweet, dense and energetic with good sap, red fruits, spice and structure. Very fresh. Hopefully that off aroma goes away. 9.3 palate. 8.7 nose.
NOSE UPDATE - soaring stanky deep black cherries. Mixed with spice. Needed 3 hours to blowoff.

Cherry. Cherry in the glass may be less interesting than the Vasees. Gains weight in the glass over time now more earthy and forest floor berries rating goes up.

Blind I would have easily though this was a young 1er Cru from Nuits. A classic perfumed nose, elegant and bright red fruits, good medium firm structure, long and pure in the finish.
