The 2016 “La Clos des Chênes” pours a ruby color with a slightly watery rim and a transparent core; medium viscosity with no staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and tart red fruit: strawberry, cranberry, raspberry, sous bois, red flowers, some animale, mushrooms and fine warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose with a medium+ finish. A Volnay of good character. Drink now through 2036.

One of the biggest surprises lately. I didn’t know what to expect from this wine as previous bottles have been very shut down over the past couple of years. Tons of red flowers and ripe red berry fruit to go with penetrating minerality and balanced acidity.

2018 vintage at home for Cocktail Hour. A gorgeous 2018 Volnay in all respects, displaying an excellent dark Bing cherry leggy appearance, that is replicated by an abundance of aromatic red/blue fruits; beautifully balanced and solidly structured with a medium/full body, dusty tannins and medium+ acidity at the long lasting, juicy finish.
