Covid-19 wine #2: virtually shared with home boy at dusk. Portuguese Baga, give it air as has a delicate but Nebbiolo-ish shade. 12.5%, Skurnik importer. I’m enjoying Portugal now. Plus my MD/ epidemiologist neighbor listened to my lungs and gave me a clean bill of health. Now to work and help keep our patients healthy in pandemic anxiety.

Blend of Bical (80%) and Arinto (20%). Aromas of fresh pears, white flowers and thyme. The palate fills with flavors of unripe peach, apricot, lemon and minerals. Nice creamy (neutral oak?) texture with a long and lingering nutty finish. Bright and luxurious. Thanks for sharing, Ron B!

Deep dark fruits, peppery, herbaceous, grippy tannins and chalky minerality.

Blackberry and gravel nose, some lavender, maybe some leather or dried beef. On the palate, medium bodied with mid to strong tannins and a bit of acidity. I feel like the lavender flavor more pronounced on the palate. Very nice and complex and drinkable.

Blackberry on the nose with juicy tannins, but light enough for olives and cheese

Fresh & sappy with intense freshly crushed ripe mulberries & blackberries, a nice note of graphite and a stony backbone + a whiff of dry aged beef.
On the palate this is juicy, fresh, bursting with energy. Authentic & w/o any makeup. Fresh, tart black fruit, spicy & crunchy yet juicy tannins, vibrant acidity. This has nice tension, a sense of place, and is dangerously drinkable!
I barely started and the bottle is already half empty!
Not for the first time I’m struck between the similarities between Baga and Blaufränkisch from Burgenland.
