The new release by FIGGINS coming from the 2020 vintage is utterly fantastic now in its playful youth. Once on the nose this takes on layers of lemon zest and honey, alongside baking spices, ginger and shades of damp earth that all meld in the glass. The palate reveals just a kiss of sweetness with lemon cake, marzipan, quince and stony undertones. Seriously esteemed and bright in its youth, this has another decade to go. Drink 2021-2031- 93

The 2017 Figgins Family Wines Riesling is a fantastic bottling from winemaker Chris Figgins. and is truly one of the best of its kind in the state. Showing off a golden hue, this begins with lovely petrol aromatics along with white flowers, honeydew melon and candied pineapple coming through in the glass. On the palate this delivers vibrant minerality backed by flavors of white peach, lemongrass, roasted pineapple and hints of smoky undertones which complete this complex and delicious Riesling. Drink 2019-2029-94

A little tight but dry, crisp with good acidity.

Started out as a nice crisp fresh wine with notes of honey dew melon and lemon evolved over the course of an hour to near medium body with layers of more intense flavors of apricot and honey comb. Really good.

Good dry Riesling but unremarkable. No off flavors but boring.

We had a busy weekend with some friends going through a few bottles. We started with the nice invigorating Riesling from Figgins. Not like the 2020 however. we paired it with some different light cheeses like Brie, Muenster cheese, an apricot flavored cheese and a garlic flavored curd cheese. They all brought different flavors out of the wine. Fun experiment. Interestingly, one of the bottles was carbonated 🤔, the yeast must have still been active.
