Ferraton Père & Fils
La Matinière Crozes-Hermitage Syrah
Slightly better than the 2012 but not quite as developed as the 2011 at this stage. Wonderful fruit aromas with dusty bacon fat and dry herbs.

1 person found it helpfulAug 2nd, 2016Typical old world wine... Earthy and complex. Fruits are not a bold as I'd expect in this "Shiraz" variety wine. Sip and think... White pepper is in there... Cherry? Blackberry? Not sure but it's got that coppery taste to it, with fruits and then white pepper... Been looking forward to a Crozes-Hermitage for years but couldn't justify it when there are so many new world wines to try... Worth it? Yeah but this is thinkin' wine, not drinkin' wine!!! Debbie likes it "very drinkable".

Jan 3rd, 2016didn't snag a pic but had this BTG tonight. Easier to drink than I expected. Evolving herbal, spice and fruit aromas. Not a very "heavy" wine for being on the "full (serious)" part of the list. Quite a nice find for a #winewednesday

In the Syrah du Rhône-Nord category at €15 (in France).. it is held in a very correct way. Accessible and gourmet. With a pretty charming nose. As read elsewhere, it is true that for the same price, if you leave the supermarket network to go to an independant wine merchant, you will find for the same price similar wines with a little more vibrant touch that makes the difference (Combier, Michelas St Jemms, Primavera...)
