Fattoria La Massa
Giorgio Primo Cabernet Sauvignon Blend
Drinking beautifully right now - outstanding. 50% cab, 45% merlot, 5% pv. Generally not a fan of SuperTuscans without sangio in it but this hits the spot.

Aug 21st, 2022Needed an hour+ to sort out but this was rich and velvety smooth Tuscan cab+merlot, dark red fruit, pencil lead, lavender. Iodine that I usually associate with Sangiovese and a touch of menthol. Still fresh, lively on the back end. Impressive.

Feb 21st, 2021Beautiful color, does not seem 15 years old. Deep mix of garnet and ruby in the core with some brick on the edges. Lovely aged characteristics on the nose with notes of leather, a bit dirty, meaty, dark dried cocoa, blackberries, herbs, earthy, cigar box and olives. Love the nose. Medium tannins (6/10), so smooth and well integrated with a medium plus body. Solid acidity and Tons of layers on the palate, tobacco, cherries, leather and some earthiness. Dry and long finish. Drink till 2020. Strong 92..
From what I have found I believe this is made up of 50% Sangiovese, 30% Merlot (first vintage with this much merlot), 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. Fruit comes from Conca d’Oro in Panzano from Chianti. 2003 was a difficult vintage for La Massa, only producing around 35,000 bottles of their flagship compared to the usual 75,000. Aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels, 10 of those are on the lees. Delicious bottling. Purchased through #WineBid for $45.00 compared to its average of $80.00.

@Martin G Rivard isn't this what you had the other day, just different vintage?
Love this 09. Just the start of a celebration weekend for @India Okoh and her new job!
Deep ruby red. Lovely nose, deep and dark. Thick too with layers of dark fruit like blackberries, spices, dark cocoa, truffles, and mushrooms. Great acidity with moderate tannins (7/10). Full bodied with some earthy notes, blackberries, black currants, a touch woody and a little damp forest floor. Long finish and a touch dry. A ton more fruit than we were expecting for a Bordeaux blend from Tuscany. Drink till 2023.

Beautiful superTuscan. Tilted toward Cabernet Sauvignon, just perfect. At Bar Agricole in San Francisco.

Jan 7th, 20172011. Tasted blind I called this as a Napa Cabernet from a ripe vintage. Blueberries, violets, earth. Beautiful. Very rare that I find a wine balanced at 15% alc. (Maybe its not?) Nice with Italian sausage/cauliflower casserole.
