Duckhorn Vineyards
Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon
Big, bold, and in your face. The aromatics come screaming out of this with the intensity of a hot Napa day. Blackberries, plums, chocolate, vanilla, a bit of cola. The scents are hiding anything either as the juice itself is similar in profile. Everything is ripe. The 2017 is ready to drink and does not need decanting. I was expecting a bit more structure and acidic strength but it’s mostly round. Not a bad thing, we enjoyed it all the same. Good lingering finish.

Jul 5th, 2023Dark ruby color with a wide brick/ reddish rim.
Gorgeous nose of blackberries, black plums, cooked cherries, figs, raisins, vanilla, cedar, earth, light vegetables, pencil lead, beef jerky, light vinaigrette, chocolates, coke, mocha, eucalyptus, dark coffee and black pepper.
Full-bodied, smooth, bold and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate and extremely fruity with blackberries, sweet cherries, black currants, cedar, earth, vanilla, licorice, spices, chocolates, tobacco, mocha, coke, light vegetables, pencil lead and peppercorn.
Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This 11 year old Napa Cabernet is peaking now. So yummy and delicious. Showing great complexity and a wonderful mouthfeel.
Good right out of the bottle, but way better after 2 hours of airtime. Needs 90 minutes to show the tannins.
This is a one that you can have all by itself, and talk about with friends. I loved the nose, and kept smelling on it for a long time.
A blend of 84% Cabernet Sauvignon and 16% Merlot. Aged in French oak barrels for 26 months (95% new).
14.5% alcohol by volume.
98 points.
$100 (current vintage).

I love wines like thjs because as I’m tasting it seems old world #cabernertsauvignon but if I took it back to Spain and tasted it six months or a year from now it would seem totally #californianwine #howellmountain #napavalley

Aug 10th, 2018Really thought this was drinking lovely. More reserved that I would have thought. Lot of pepper notes with great texture. Well done. Out of a magnum.

Dec 17th, 2016Aging nicely this should continue to evolve over the next 3-5 years. Dark but restrained ruby color with bright stonefruit, dried sage and thyme on the nose. The once young tannins have mellowed out nicely and acid coming into balance but keeping the structure of the wine. Merlot balances out the minerality of the cab with deep berry flavor and medium to long finish. I swore there was some petit verdot in here but not so! This should be in its prime now +24 months.
