I’ve always had a soft spot for New Zealand Chardonnay and this wine from Martinborough supports the theory. Mid Lemon in colour. Dusty citrus and honey notes. These descriptors transfer through to the palate with white peach and medium acid. A touch of pineapple juice. Another classy Chardonnay from New Zealand.

1996 - (Ben Dugdale) Delicious, stunningly good. Everything as it should be in a twenty year old chard!

Fresh and expansive nose. Palate brings a surprising amount of citrus along with delicate stone fruit. Good acid. Interesting wine with lots of potential.

Pale gold colour, still youthful. Chablis style with little evidence of oak; instead, a rich seam of minerality and tropical fruit with tooth licking acidity and a long finish that reveals many layers. Not what I expected from a premium new world Chardonnay but utterly delicious - fireworks.

The Dry River Chardonnay, nougat, dry clay bed and dried apricot on the nose. A burst of pink lady apple, followed quickly by a fleeting sensation of orange and cumquat starts off the palate, which then continues on to a long zesty sour gooseberry finish. What's left is an ever so slightly buttery sensation in the mouth. Well balanced, but the sweetness and flavours could be toned down just a touch to add a bit of elegance and prestige.
