Taurasi Aglianico
Dark, blackish purple. Inviting nose of tarry blackberry. Full-bodied palate gives that same blackberry with ripe blueberry, and a hint of birch ash on the moderately long finish. Fine, medium plus tannins and medium acidity. Aglianico is my new go-to Italian variety and Taurasi is the King. Old World presence with a slight New World feel. The slight step down from the Riserva makes for a great value in a premium appellation. Pizza — originally from the same region — is a natural pair, but take this anywhere you’d take a Bordeaux or a New World Syrah or Petite Sirah. Drink now through 2027.

Sep 18th, 2021This wine is medium-dark in the glass and offers up a perfumed nose of red fruit, sweet oak spice, smoke and hint of spearmint. The palate is just as delightful, with cherries, raspberries and red currant flavors joining together. The tannins are sweet, while the finish is medium length and savory. It was great with an Italian sub sandwich and also a hit with arancini and fennel-laced meatballs.

Deeply opaque ruby-crimson color.
Mascerated fruits and loamy soil come to mind when aerated. A familiar sterility lingers, like cherry cough drops.
Subtle, developed fruits with a balance of roundness and structure give this an inky quality. There's deep, dark cocoa/coffee on the finish, resembling a dark chocolate truffle with boozy fruit inside. Said finish is medium long and resembles the olfactory notes.
Paired with chicken pizza.

100% aglianico. Like a decadent blackberry and chocolate dessert but not too sweet, just indulgent and velvety.
