Donnachiara
Campania Aglianico
Some intrigue, but ultimately not a wine I enjoyed The combination of ripe fruit, high tannins, an oddly thin mid-palate, a cooked orange juice character, and a peculiar metallic note just did not sit well for me. A justifiably difficult blind given my unfamiliarity with the variety and inability to even finish the glass poured.

Aug 7th, 2022Transparent dark garnet purple. Inviting nose and medium palate of black cranberry and underripe blueberry with a hint of rubbery anise mid palate. Medium plus (classic Italian) acidity; medium tannins. This entry level to Aglianico is a nice lighter intro to southern Italy’s premier variety. Not as bold as Taurasi, but a fine accompaniment to Margherita (or any other red sauced) pizza. Drink now.

Jul 5th, 2021Drank 8/21/20. Nice with pizza, but would prefer with some lamb or maybe bbq.
Nose of blackberry, black cherry, pipe tobacco, and sweet baking spices. Black cherry, soil, tar, and spice flavors. Firm tannins and black fruit dominate the long finish.
4/21/8/3/4 +50 =90 pts.

Vino interesante. Nariz de cereza, ciruela, hoja seca y tabaco con trasfondo de fruta. En la boca suave con buen balance de fruta y acidez. Muy buen valor versus su costo. Vale la pena explorar el DOC. (Ballester)

Feb 11th, 2022Inky, very reticent nose - super reductive - able to discern dark fruit & rich soil, leather, tar, some pepper all wrapped in a rustic frame. Decent weight & grip, bit astringent on finish.

Oct 14th, 2021Dark in the glass, deep ruby with slight brick edge.
Bright red cherry fruit, nice dry lip-smacking tannin and light mineral/smoke characteristics.
What a nice surprise. I was expecting ripe fruit but it's pleasantly fresh, nice.
