The Gallivanter California Red Blend

Medium ruby; Medium plus intensity aromas of red cranberry, ripe red and black cherry, raspberry, juicy blackberry purple flower, mushroom , funky mineral; developing; dry, medium acid, medium tannins, medium alcohol, medium, medium plus intensity flavors of tart red cranberry, juicy red and black fruit, cherry, blackberry, raspberry, oxidative red apple skins, mushroom, wet leaves; medium plus finish; very good – tart acid balances ripe fruit flavors, concentration of fruit matches slightly prolonged length

Cali vin de soif mod version, fun if not a bit one note on the sour spectrum.

Lifted notes of fresh cranberry, raspberry, and blueberry at the back. Ruby with moderate concentration and little staining. Dried lavender, black pepper, marzipan, elevated acidity, medium tannin, elevated to full body. Interesting blend, wouldn’t have guessed there were Mourvèdre or Merlot in it.

Fresh and fruity, not going to bang you over the head either.

First natural red

Cloudy color of a red rhubarb stem. Smells tart and rustic. Bit of elderberry stem and green plums. Flavors are dry, tart and old world herbal. Some pie cherry. Lots of fizz in it. Flavors are on the sour beer and kombucha spectrum. Interesting, but nothing unbelievably intriguing. Name is a bit too much too.

JL tasting 5/8/18. ABV 13.3. $19. Mostly Merlot, only 10% Grenache (see NYT). Very interesting nose with salinity and sense of freshness. Great palate balance ave long finish. Yummy and elegant.
