Domaine Tempier may well be the most famous name in Bandol, so much so that it's difficult to discern if they're more beloved for their rosé or their rouge, both of which have earned diehard followings. Tempier is also one of the few Bandol wineries to craft a suite of single vineyard bottlings. Their entry level red, however, is what you'll more frequently encounter - and it always delivers. To sum up the wine in a word? Spice. Seductive and piquant, it tastes of anise, ginger, spice cake, cassis, and black plum. Streamlined and pure, the wine also merits praise for its chalky texture and tannic structure that provide this Bandol such tremendous longevity. 75% Mourvèdre, 14% Grenache, 9% Cinsaut, 2% Carignan.

Earth, fruit. Good stuff. Drank with dinner at Amelia’s with Elissa, Sumby, Nancy, Jimmy, Rance, and Autumn.

Wow. My first D. Tempier and I was blown away. Tons of herbs and fruit. Paired well with a variety of dishes, with each dish highlighting a different flavor in the wine. Definitely going to revisit this producer on a regular basis.

Nice wine, but not nearly as complex as the 2013 tasted previously. A bit disappointing.

Full expression of Mouvedre at its best. This beautiful Bandol delivers black berry, dried prunes with gravel notes. 2015 might be still young but awesome!

2015 is a great vintage for Tempier. Both of these strip away fanfare and trappings representing a cool confidence which others can only dream of. Tempier makes consistently great wine in every vintage and when a special one like 2015 comes along, it just makes everything great in the wine that much greater. Van’s run from 1968-1974 has few peers. This album is right in the middle of that period, and exemplifies a man at the peak of his powers. Two things I really love here.

Opened on day one, drank on day two. Huge tannins with ginger, blueberries, clove, umami, and then tannins forever. Needs a lot of time.
