Rocks socks for $18. A textbook example of a gluggable Rhone.

2007 Vintage. Huge fruit. Had with venison. Initial flavors smooth and round. Then the tannin came on. Still intense fruit but in 3-4 years may become more elegant.

Ruby purple color. Aromas of black pepper, resinous herbs, and black cherry fruit. Pepper is predominant on the palate, too, and there are great grippy tannins and blackberries. The finish is leathery, with black tea and more pepper. Very clean—no whiff or Brett or funk—but it's also rambunctious and zesty. A perfect October-by-firelight wine. 14.5% abv | $16 at Putney (VT) Coop
