Domaine Jean Tardy et Fils
Au Bas de Combe Vieilles Vignes Nuits St. Georges Pinot Noir
Captures the gist of northern NSG without a hefty price point. Tardy’s 80 year old vine in the lieu dit do not hurt either. Silken tannin, pure and lovely black cherry fruit, hints of the exotic like licorice root and stat anise, plenty of forest notes like sous bois, damp fern, and cedar. I think they matched the cooperage well here, its supportive of this more compact and acid driven vintage. Over a couple days it has held well and been pleasurable.

Mar 30th, 2020Classy but tight. Opened in the glass over time. Smoky, floral perfume. Strawberry, rhubarb. Lemons. Unity. Very young. Would love to taste in a few years.

Oct 1st, 2015Really impressive on opening. Tastes like a Pinot noir should. Cherries, rose, a bit of fern like hiking in CA redwood grove, there’s some strawberry, some dust, plum skin. Interestingly the aftertaste, maybe 20 seconds later suddenly has a sweetness to it that I really enjoy. Drinking really well now on opening. Grateful to try this.

Jun 24th, 2024Lovely. Sappy cherry fruit with balancing acidity. Vineyard sits below NSG 1er Boudots, catercorner to Vosne 1er Malconsorts and above Vosne aux Reas. My last bottle.

Nov 29th, 2020This was excellent. This villages wine is from just over the border from Vosne Romanee. Light and ethereal. Tannins are mostly resolved.
