Since the Bandol was corked, and we had braised lamb shanks, we decided to stay on-theme and open a well-aged Sierra Foothills Mourvèdre. Nose is earthy and quite ripe, even with a slight pruney note, on top of the ripe dark berry fruit. Palate is dense and quite ripe. There’s a tad of noticeable residual sugar that detracts a little, but otherwise it’s pretty satisfying. Good acids and there’s still a bit of tannin left. Nice!

Feb 7th, 2022Brick colored edges; very fine, soft tannins; fruit is abundant like cherry, fig, and plum, but tertiary flavors have emerged too: mushroom, sage, spice. Acidity is still alive...Day 2: really singing. More a soft mint, strawberry profile. Worth an extra point.
