As Rhône or Nôwhere 2.0 concluded, our heads were spinning. Spinning not only due to the consumption but from the out-of-this-world lineup. As we tried to gather ourselves, a bottle of 2011 DRC Romanée St. Vivant was generously opened to toast the evening’s frivolities. I mean, wow. The 2011 R-S-V pours a bright but deep ruby with no signs of age. It’s dark fruited and slightly green, probably still needing another decade+ to flesh out. There is some beautiful use of oak with gorgeous baking spices. Way more closed than the 2011 DRC Echezeaux we enjoyed a couple years back. Clearly amazing. Clearly a baby still. Afterwards, a friend with more experience than (in respects to DRC) mentioned that Echezeaux usually shows well when young while R-S-V typically needs the most time. Something that I’ll keep in mind. To my palate, this will be best after 2030 and should be excellent through 2050+. It’s got that kind of guts and balance.

Very intense. Some barnyard notes but great richness underlies it. Gorgeous fruit. Lovely

wow. Exceptionally plush and deep. Luxuriant red and blue fruit but with a sappy soft plasticine quality. Really plush and lush and delicious with great clarity and purity. Again, wow

Very pretty and pure. A lovely bright nose. Bright cherry fruit with violet and floral notes. Zesty and still young. Kinda thrilling. Fleshed out and styles- nice weight

this is getting better and better in the glass. Plush plum fruit, some stemmy notes, black cherry, vigorous. Complex and full of character. Great

Incredible red fruit, forest floor, slight sappy overtones, reminds me of pine trees when I was a kid! Additional baking spices from some new oak but overall the balance is whats most striking in all of DRC wines. Nothing overpowering in any category. Love it.

What a nose. Impossible to describe. A nice mustiness but beautiful flowers. Some earth balance. Not replicable. Could go a few more years. Still tannic although nicely integrated. Just magnificent.

I brought this. From a bottle with a 6 cm ullage. I was worried about giving this too much air before the tasting so I double decanted it and stopped it – so the air it got was at the event. This was a good strategy as it started out pretty nicely, but then powered up and had some peacock moments during the afternoon. My score grew during the day. Notes of raspberry and rhubarb and Asian spice that is typical of Vosne wines. Nice, sweet profile with complexity and pizazz that grew with air. Nice showing for a not so great bottle condition and a not so great vintage.
