Romanée-St. Vivant Pinot Noir 2002

Crazy good! The 02 is such a great vintage for DRC & this was drinking well. Polished & finessed with soaring aromatics. — 8 days ago

Marey-Monge Romanée-St. Vivant Pinot Noir

Very old burgundy that still had a little life. Some red left. What might have been. Nice history — 11 days ago

La Tâche Pinot Noir 1996

Tasted blind. Dark murky red color. Notes of cherries... black cherries, tart cherries, lotsa cherries. Some cranberries and a little herbalness too. Masculine and brooding in the mouth. Seems really big, with tannins still present and lots of acidity. I guessed 95 Dugat Griotte. This needs another decade or two of slumber to develop more. Brought by a friend who said this was the first bottle he pulled from a case he bought on release. I hope to remain his friend. — 11 days ago

La Grande Rue Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2016

The 6th and final of the Vosne Romanee Grand Crus. Tasted blind. Red fruited without the intensity on nose and palate of the others in this final group. In past tastings La Grande Rue has been a standout and good value in relative terms but this year it lacked the depth class and intensity of the others in the group. To summarise the Vosne Romanee GC group the consensus of the group was #1 to the DRC RC, Equal 2nd to La Tache and the Thibault Richebourg, 4th to the Hudelot RSV, 5th to La Romanee ( a tough school when a wine as good as this is placed 5th!) and 6th to La Grande Rue. Congratulations to Prince Wine Store for putting this wonderful tasting on every year and being able to source these increasingly rare bottles. Already looking forward to the next one. — a month ago

Romanée-Conti Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2016

The commune we have all been waiting for - Vosne Romanee. The first of 6 Grand Crus tasted blind. In 2 of the 3 previous tastings the first wine in this group has been the DRC RC and when I sampled the breathtaking quality of this wine I was thinking they have done it again. A couple of experts in the group felt the 2 DRC wines were at #1 and #4 This proved to be correct. My notes - Perfume of violets, pepper and Asian Spices. A perfect palate of both feminine charm and latent power ... unbelievable. The La Tache usually shows as more voluptuous in these tastings but not in 2016. I normally don’t have this much left in my glass after the wine has been identified so this was quite a luxury. Just wonderful. As Clive Coates MW said - the yardstick with which to judge all other Burgundies. It is easy to think with the 1000 year history, and the stone cross that there is something spiritual and other worldly about this wine. The consensus from all 12 tasters was that this was the best of the Vosne Romanee tasting and therefore of the whole 34 Grand Crus tasted. Only 440 dozen produced for the world. — a month ago

@Mike R Yes Mike, these group tastings are the way to go rather than forking out at best $8000AUD for a bottle and hoping you can live another 20 years to enjoy at its peak 😀🍷

Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair

La Romanée Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2016

No. 2 in the Vosne Romanee Grand Cru bracket. Tasted blind. My brief note (sensory overload has set in again!): A perfumed woody smokiness - sweet and gorgeous with a beautiful texture and mouthfeel. “ With Romanee Conti to its eastern boundary it is similar but slightly different. Les Richebourgs to its northern boundary. La Romanee is a Monopole owned by the Liger-Belair family and is the smallest appellation in France at. 0.8452 hectares producing only 250 to 350 cases each vintage. A wonderful wine with at least 2 decades of cellaring before it reaches its peak. — a month ago
