M’s bday dinner (9/12). Tasted blind. Light tawny and translucent. Great nose. Notes of bing cherry, roses, spice, some rhubarb and a bit of English tea. Rich in the mouth despite what appears to be a really old burg. Great structure and balance. Refined. Long finish. Guessed 60’s La Tache. An amazing wine that on the whole was probably a better wine than the 71 Richebourg, but for a few of us the Richebourg provided more emotion driven by its intoxicating nose.

Past life span. Old. VA. Undrinkable to me though others seemed to enjoy it.

Handel Lee's bottle drank in Shanghai and yes it was real thing! Cork in good shape albeit tore upon pulling...no Ah-So to assist but wine opened and sang for over an hour. Dried cherries, roses, Asian spices...Sous Bois. Balanced acids and firm backbone. A hell of a treat! This bottle at its peak and just a beaut!

Sings of storage issues, low neck, slightly materized, tea leaves, tad gritty, some of the classic LaTache elements were under the surface if you focused hard.

Strike two. Sometimes it's just great to get an at bat. Unfortunately this was shot on the nose and in the mouth.

1966 vintage. La Tache. Pale garnet. Slightly cloudy. A wow fuck off nose. Deep and layered. Huge complexity. Alluding. Red and black fruits. Leather and spice. Nutmeg dominant. Some nuttiness. On the palate, concentrated and layered. Intellectual. Crisp acidity and medium minus integrated tannins. Long. Very very good.
