Domaine de Chasselvin
Crozes-Hermitage White Rhone Blend
This wine was at its best on the THIRD night it was open. If we had any left, would it be better on #4?

The first night it had such an overwhelmingly vegetal nose (like the gooey insides of tomatoes that are on their way out) it was almost undrinkable. But on night two this caterpillar had turned into a butterfly. Bitter honey, lanolin, intense stony minerals, and bitter pear scents. (Still a little tomato thing if you're looking for it.) Broad and oily-textured in the mouth. Loads of minerals and burnt bitter honey. The bitter pear fruit too. Low acids. Long dark minerally finish. Air this one out and it's quite nice and unusual.
UPDDATE: (a couple of hours later on night 2). Keeps getting better. Finish longer and less bitter. Waxy ripeness showing through. Upping to 8.9.

Chasselvin crozes hermitage blanc. 2013. Wow. One of the best under thirty whites all year rich but well balZnced. Not too much like many Rhone whites.

Oct 21st, 2016Opens up with pungently fruity nose. Lots of yellow fruits. Papaya. Mango. Tres exotitique. As it aerates more mineral/waxy classic white Crozes aromas. Even some marzipan. Palate has lots of energy with great acidity and good mineral/waxey tones. Well executed and distinctive. Not for everyone but I really like it.
