Les Vieilles Vignes Cornas Syrah

So good. Tight but opening. Dark, plummy fruit. Long finish. 2017. Wonderful.

Delicious Cornas from a killer vintage

From a bottle that had been opened the day before with half the contents remaining so these notes are from Day 2. The wine pours a deep purple with a ruby rim and a near opaque core. Medium+ viscosity with significant staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing and already brimming with confidence. Bright blue bramble fruits, lavender, black pepper, olive tapenade, some well oiled leather and some baking spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannins and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The body and supple texture is distinctive. The finish is long and satisfying. From a Cornas perspective, this is less wild and more polished but that’s not a slight. This is a beautifully made Cornas from one of my favorite vintages in the Rhône over the last 15 years.

One of my favorites. Classic black pepper, black olive, graphite, violet, smoked meat and game. Gorgeous!

Young and already plenty funky. Mid weighted syrah with a smoky and sweaty nose. The palate has pepper, iron, and garrigue in competition with the fruit. Should continue to integrate and bring even more funk down the road.

Lovely 2014 from Voge, at once readily generous and supple in its youth, yet also has the density to age for many years to come.

Riper then expected, delicious and showing a lot character (mostly fruit) in its youthful stage.

Deep dark blueberry notes, blackberries and sugar, crystalized sugar. Rotting violets and white pepper nose. Black pepper on the palate, licorice and baking spice. Sooo good! Intense vintage in northern rhone singing loud.
