Elegant, suave and pliant, high pH and almost creamy but not flabby. Violet, spiced black fruit, cured game, duck confit, olive candy, rocks, licorice. Beautiful with roasted leg of lamb.

Happy New Year!
I double decanted this for about an hour before consuming. Extremely floral! The co-ferment of 8% Viognier really makes this jump from the glass. There is a balance of funk (Rocks district), stems and even some sweet stone fruit aromatically (from the Viognier). This feels like a middle ground of KVintners (big fruit, some savory/funk) and Cayuse (big funk, some fruit). It has a green/stemmy flair, but overall it’s a more fresh and fragrant style of Syrah. I’m a bit shocked at how ready to go this is…double decanted, but hardly any acidity or tannin at the finish. Incredibly easy to drink. Potpourri, iron, peppercorn crusted raspberries and rhubarb with added savory dark fruits at the finish. Delicious Syrah!

The 2016 Delmas Syrah is a head-turning wine that takes its seat at the high table in Washington Syrah. Sourced from the highly acclaimed SJR Vineyard, the Syrah is connected with 7.25% Viognier in the co-ferment and saw limited new oak prior to bottling. This instantly impressess as it exudes heady aromas of red currant jelly, cigar ash, blood orange rind, barn floor, crushed wet gravel and Asian spices which all come together beautifully and continue to bring you back to the glass for more. On the palate this silky, smooth and seductive red is well balanced and laced with flavors of cranberries, pomegranate, Mandarin orange, red cherry candy, peat moss and Umami. This has incredible range, precision, purity and focus from start to finish. Overall, this is a completely compelling wine from winemaker, Billo Naravane, which will cellar beautifully for a decade or more. Drink 2019-2030- 96

Lucky to have a dinner guest bring this Washington Syrah to dinner. Bit of funk on the nose and beautiful on the palate with a finish that lingers for days.

2013 lacked a bit of punch from the previous vintage. But, still a solid Syrah with depth, character and finish that tastes of The Rocks.

Not sure I understand the big ratings in this wine - more red fruited then blue, no pepper, no structure, doesn't really speak of The Rocks. Polished edges and pleasant drinking, but...???
