Delas Frères
Seigneur de Maugiron Côte-Rôtie Syrah
Founded over 160 years ago, Delas Frères was acquired by Champagne Deutz in 1977. 100% Syrah from a blend of grapes 70% Cote Brune & 30% Cote Blonde, aged in French oak (30% new), aromas of red berry fruits and complex spice. On the palate raspberry and plum flavors, savory with herb pepper spice. Fine tannins, nice mouthfeel, lingering ending with fruit and mineral on ending.

Jan 24th, 2019Welp, got a new favorite region in France.
Not having as much experience in Northern Rhone I was unsure of what to expect; what I didn't expect was to be wowed as much as I am at this.
The nose is stellar. Full of violets and lacquered red fruits and smoky charcuterie, it really sets a high bar for what the wine tastes like. And on that end, it doesn't disappoint. There's a driving force of acid behind the wine along with a core of red fruit, with an earthiness that is welcome and appreciated.
Can't wait to try more from this region!

Deep ripe Syrah, woody oak initially, excellent with fatty lamb, good wine!

An elegant mix of violets, creme d'cassis, smoke, some meat however the fruit and floral is the dominant character. Silky, ripe and refined tannin with good acidity.

Nov 18th, 2016See my previous note here in Delectable as this is in the same vein but honestly a little boring. Very well made but lacking in some typicity imo.

Sep 11th, 2016Sadly it didn't hold up very well. Level was great at <1cm but it was still showing too much VA and had a dead mulch nose. After 90 minutes it lost some of the goofy superglue aromas and gained a semblance of composure but over all it didn't have the stamina. It had some potential but, as if keecapped, it just wasn't able to run the distance.
