Crocker & Starr
St. Helena Cabernet Franc
Still lots of stuffing. Decanted. Mouth coating fruit and nice tannins. The second day, stellar!! Love this Franc.

Apr 29th, 2023This was seriously spectacular. Incredible mouthful and rose petals flying out of the glass with kisses of blueberry essence attached.

Dec 22nd, 2018What an incredible second day here in Napa. Jesus started us off with an amazing tasting at Davies/Schramsberg, Crocker & Starr gave us our cab franc fix, Montagu & Addax put on a double tasting, and Hourglass knocked it out of the park at the end of the day! I won’t post each wine we tasted, but I’ll highlight the best from each spot.
We are all die hard Cab Franc fans, so a stop here was a must after @Carl Fischer introduced me to this cab franc last year. First, the property itself is flat out gorgeous. Quaint and quiet. Awesome history here as well.
This cab franc is a BABY. New release. Red and black fruits are still fighting to take over...didn’t get much blueberry off of this like I did the ‘12, but age plays a part. Violet, lavender, black truffle and a touch of spice. A benchmark for Napa Cab Franc, alongside Arnyca and Detert. The Post 1 bottle is their current release (2013) Cabernet that is their purest expression of Cabernet from the Estate. This is serious Cabernet...tannic, structured and could compete with top end mountain wines.

1 person found it helpfulOct 29th, 2014My cab franc binge continues, and this one ranks among the best Cab francs I've ever had. @Carl Fischer and I are "cab franc nerds" (a smaller group of the Wine Nerd Herd crew 😂), and we agreed to introduce each other to our favorite cab francs. This was my first from his batch and I wonder if the bar is now set too high! If I had to summarize this wine, it would be that everything is in sync. All the pieces feel well aligned and brought together appropriately. Initially, I want to talk about the nose...that oiled leather, pepper, currants and vanilla, but then I go back to the beautiful acidity, texture, medium bodied, rush of blackberries, plum and floral notes. I keep going back and forth. Feel like that's the signature of a great wine...you can't decide which component is your favorite. @Pam Starr , this is a beautiful wine. Carl, you are off to a hot start my friend. Looking forward to seeing how the Detert shows!

Mar 11th, 2017The wine is dark and mysterious, like Cab Franc should be. Blueberry aromas dominate the nose, with a lovely bell pepper note bubbling underneath. Flavors of dark fruit, coffee and black pepper on the palate are joined with firm tannins and a sweet oak influence.

May 7th, 2016Juicy dark fruits, cherries, raspberries with the typical minty herbaceousness you would expect from a cab franc. Smooth tannins silky mouthfeel lingering finish. Ages very well
