Why Rouche (Rouchet) is not more popular is a mystery to me. Gorgeous extroverted nose of purple florals, mountain berries, and crushed stone. Round, fruity, and full flavored, it’s got some soft tannin framing the deep fruit. Complexity isn’t its thing, but it delivers on character.

Gorgeous fruit and floral aromatics. Candied flower petals, dried strawberries and pomegranate seed. Really pretty, if not a bit hot at 15% abv.

Sadly this bottle is ever so slightly corked, but the wine is trying to rise above it.

Every now and again I CRAVE a Ruche (or Rouchet). Grapey and blackberryish, but not too over the top. Some underbrush and violets too. Crunchy and vibrant in the mouth. Will go well (if there’s any left) with my Tapulon all’ Borgomanero.

Dark berries and espresso. A little hollow but ultimately enjoyable.

Nice to see this wine back. A couple of intervening vintages since 2009 have been over extracted and hit with oak. This 2012 is back to neutral (or nearly so) allowing the compelling anise, beef jerky savoriness to come forward. Weird and delicious.

Ruchè. The mysterious other grape from Piedmont. This 2013 was fresh with gripping acidity before the fruit arrived on a bed of soft tannins. A versatile, enjoyable bottle. Have you tried Ruchè yet?

Dark and wild. Starts out with a blast of red cherries and then descends into spice and funk with interesting acidity and austerity.

Smells a bit like Grand Marnier - spice and fruit and pine resin. Dark fruit, a bit of tobacco or leather, a bit spicy. An excellent drink.

How does one describe? Berries, violets, lush mouthfeel. Pelaverga-esque. Love!
