Dark brooding fruits poured from cigar box with exceptional structural balance. Everything exactly where it ought to be.

Deep dark red-purple colour. Initial nose reminescent of fresh (as opposed to jammy) blackberries and cassis; after swirling notes of Provencal herbs(thyme, rosemary) with a subtle hint of black pepper. This smells like a Northern Rhône Syrah (Saint-Joseph or Hermitage, rather than Cote Rotie). Medium-bodied with medium-high acidity, not as light as the alcohol level suggests. Smooth tannin. Medium-length and not really complex, but a satisfying glass of cool-climate Syrah. Expensive though for what it is. 2012 vintage, 12,2 % abv., 59 euro ( about 69 $).

Pot roast drinking wine. Needed a good two hours to open up, then super savory on top of dense fruit. Olive tapenade, smoked meat, leather - then blue and purple fruit. Plenty of stuffing to go longer, but currently at a really nice savory/fruit balance point. Unclear to me where this is headed down the road...

Night 1. Waiting for the menthol/urinal cake/sulphur to blow off. Boy has this wine changed since my last bottle.

Olives, smoke, dried meats and some dark cherry. Drinks like its from the Northern Rhone. New favorite CA Syrah.

Bright, beaming, but not brooding.

This is a VERY different Halcon. Years away from being ready.
