Clos Rougeard
"Brézé" Saumur Chenin Blanc
This is one wine that eludes me. I don’t get the hype - it’s always so oxidative, even across multiple vintages tried and drunk in France. I’m not sure if it’s bottle condition or style, but given my lacklustre hit rate with this cuvee, I’m inclined to rate this wine down. Still waiting for that amazing bottle which at this point will only come from generous friends - I’m dumping the rest.

Aug 7th, 2024Magnificent. Hard to imagine this drinking much better than right now. Everything in balance - honeycomb, yellow plum, herbs, resolved but present oak, and ample acidity. Texturally amazing, persistently and insistently filling every corner of the mouth. Killer.

Oct 23rd, 2016The nose is convertible & with some air a bit oxidative. But the palate is just amazing! Acidity, tension and length in perfection.
