Decanted for 90min; consumed over 4 hours. This was very Bordeaux-like with cassis, dark cherry, tobacco and forest floor. Medium-bodied. Great structure. Not super deep but classic and almost even rustic in some ways. Very good. If I was holding onto these, I would plan to drink sooner than later. I should note, this was a 1.5L bottle.

Out of a 3L and aged beautifully. Had quite a bit going on without being tired at all. Plenty of fruit and he tertiary notes of dried moss and tiny touch of leather were just starting to come through.

The flagship of Clos Du Val is their Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon. The 1973 vintage was included in the Judgment of Paris. The 2011 vintage presents a similarly styled profile as the same vintage from Cathy Corison as well as Keenan. While it doesn’t hit the high notes achieved by those bottles, it’s a commendable effort considering the difficulty of the vintage. Olive tapenade and fire roasted peppers play well off the warmth of cedar and hot brick. The balance allows the currant and black cherry to sail through, leaving behind secondary notes of earth, graphite, coffee, and charcoal.

For a iffy vintage this performed beautifully - full - exotic perfume - svelt and balanced.

Second of the blind red wines at this quarter's S&E Wine Club, which for red was either Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc or Merlot from either Rutherford or Stags Leap District. Thanks Claude and Carrie!

Medium ruby red. A touch of greenery on the nose with chalk and blueberries. Heavy tannins (7/10) and medium plus bodied. Attack of black cherries on the palate with tons of volcanic like soil. Definitely felt reserved. Dry and long finish. Drink till 2022.

Clos du Val's 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon is a pretty wine with lovely balance and an understated personality to match. Plums, black cherries, tobacco, cedar, flowers and mint are laced into the silky, expressive finish. Overall this is an attractive, mid-weight Cabernet built on a classic sense of structure. It should drink well for the next decade or more. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous)

Lush, loaded and well built. Dark fruits with pops of ripe red fruits throughout. Vanilla, graphite, licorice, and a lovely dark cocoa note on the finish.
