Château Yvonne
"Le Beaumeray" Saumur Champigny Cabernet Franc
Out of this world and maybe best vintage ever for this wine. Nose is so complex and aromatic. Red fruits, tobacco leaf, freshly harvested tobacco, tweed jacket, cranberry bog, wet earth and so deep. Just stunning. Floral top notes now. Just amazing. 9.7 almost 9.8 nose. The energy on the palate is just incredible. Juicy and so fine. This is like silky beyond belief and utterly fresh and complex. It’s spice silky actually. What a finish and for a wine about finesse this has an amazing amount of material and a finish that doesn’t quit.

Aug 1st, 2021A brilliant wine. A complex wine. But also a young wine. Like a Loire 1st Growth. Needs 5-6 years. But amazing. And yes amazing in 2014. Can’t imagine 2015. Well yes I can. Anyway, deep nose, ethereal nose, woodland berry, forest, lord of the rings deep thicket forest, spice, herbaceous, tobacco, mineral, so so so deep, so so 1st growth Bordeaux but oddly more left than right bank even tho it’s Cab Franc. Superb but in 5-6 years watch out this will wreck Bordeaux 5-6-7 times more expensive than it. Amazing depth. It’s a substantial wine, with unreal fruit density and small berry fruit intensity and superb balance and length. Blackberry fruit that is so well defined and so vivid. Incredible minerality on the finish. Big structure but also amazing elegant and toothsome tannins. Masterful tannins that master the vintage. The blackberry fruit and minerality just coats your palate and does not quit. Easily best 2014 red Loire I’ve tasted. Brilliant wine.

Feb 5th, 2019Pop and pour. 1 hr slow ox. On the nose: macerated red fruit, soft musky perfume, a touch of vegetal...perfumed cab franc. On the palate: lovely acidity and density, more red fruit, a touch of very soft charcoal, ash and macerated cherry on the slightly chalky and bitter finish. Lovely right now, but clearly potential to improve with age.
