Clos Bertrand Côte de Brouilly Gamay

Love this nose. The first of the Thivin single vineyards. The “least serious” but always a favorite. Nose is out of sight. Gorgeous aromas of lipstick like tiny red berry fruit intensity. Rises up like volcanic smoke. It’s expansive to say the least. Really smells crunchy. 19 seems like 14 for me. Maybe with a dash of 16 thrown in. Palate delivers the crunch, the silkiness and refinement this cuvee is known for. Very pure red cherry fruits burst in your mouth and are cleansed with great acidity and engaging minerality. Bright. Really pure, classic and balanced. Not a hair out of place. Long, very well defined red fruits and so much joy make this a perfect wine to take the rainy day blues away.

Grapey and high toned nose. Lovey granite, strawberries and cranberries. Clean. Earthy, sinewy and bright. Palate is concentrated and super bright with sappy early season cherries. Good freshness and energy. Mouthfilling and tangy. Just great. Terrific 18’s here. So much fruit and freshness. So well made and such a nice delicate way about it.

Somewhat less fruity and more stony than other special cuvée Thivin wines I’ve had. Really transmits the granite soils. Still, very ripe crunchy pure cherry fruit is there. The elegance and liveliness of the 14s is there too. So pure and minerally.

The four single vineyards are my favorite Beaujolais done in the classic style. If doesn’t get better than these 4. Clos Bertrand is perhaps the most accessible and is such a joy. Stunning nose of spicecake, granite, red and black berry fruit, earth and flowers. So pure and vivid. These wines are so clean. Palate is ripe and tangy with excellent precision and detail. Lean-ish with lovely sweet fruit and purity. Linear. So juicy with such fine grained tannins and such impressive length. This oozes class. Amazing fruit saturation on the finish. So long. Brilliant.

There's a lot going on here! Bright yet red cherries and cranberries, with juicy strawberries begging for attention. Dried violets and iris, a puff of sweet pipe tobacco, woodsy spices and pine straw. Tannins give it strength, acidity gives it life. Knock out Beaujolais

90-100 year old vines here. Deep, yet muted nose. Epic length. Juicy as all can be. Long. A wow wine. A monument to the vintage.

Huge nose. 80 year old vines average age. Mega menthol, leafy, tree, resin, pine, spice, flowers. Absurd depth. Rich, grapey yet structured. It has energy but it wound up and can be so much more expressive. Very mineral.

Day 2 - beefy meaty nose. Floral. Darker. Vigorous. Animal. Forests. Terrific purity and depth. Unreal balance and acidity. Just so fresh and vivid. Black cherry. Sappy. So complex. Echoes. Incredible.

Huge aromas. Noticeably better than the Brulhie. Deeper. Granite. More soil tones. More textured. Silkier. More textures. Sweeter fruit. Really great acidity that provides a serious backbone. Almost citrus like. Really long.

Day 2 - deep animal, almost rugged nose. Dark, spicey and meaty. Super different from yesterday. Elegant, complex and juicy. Very friendly. Totally pure and balanced. Excellent. Brilliant actually. Not that complex but so gluggable and pure. A lot to like.

Superb aromas. Crushed berries. Granite. Rocks. Floral. Uplifting. Tannic, spicey, gritty, juicy. Uplifting palate with excellent acidity. This is drink me now. Juicy. Terrific. This will be gone quick. Crackling. Juicy. Amazingly pure.
