Enjoyed on a train ride home from NYC. Opens up immediately to a bouquet of smoky cigars and old leather. Palate still holds texture and tannins still have some grip. Totally pleasurable to drink now 😄

What a great buy this has been since release. Much better than more famous properties costing far more than this modest producer.
Dark color. Great aromatics. Full palate.

This wine seems finally mature, with tannins fully resolved, but still showing a firm backbone and structure, fresh acidity, very good balance, lingering finish, always a good wine for me. Funny anecdote about Sociando-Mallet, at least in the 1980s they used the worst “glue” on their labels, so about 1/3 of them fall off — as long as the bottles are in OWCs, not a big deal, but this is one where the label did fall off. 🤔🤷

Solid red color to the rim, mostly dried redfruits with some developing mushroom/soy undertones, tannins are largely resolved with a medium-long finish, shows just a bit of the 1986 tannic/dry notes, at or very near peak, lovely older Bordeaux!

FLN — Very fine Bordeaux, but not quite the depth and complexity of the two 2d growths, drinking very well now in that tight, somewhat tannic, Sociando Mallet style.

Hosted my wine group (SJOS) and this was part of my Cab-ish theme tasting. Very nice and finally got around to drinking this $16.99 wine, should have bought more.
