White pepper, vanilla, and bell pepper on the nose. Dense purple color. White pepper and vanilla follows on the palate. Black fruit is in the distant background. Alc is a little hot. Nice balance otherwise.

Expectedly the most evolved wine in our Bordeaux masterclass. Trademark Pauillac nose apparently with the notes of smoke, charcoal, and tabacco, along with cassis, plum, and a touch of funky musk. Palate was starting to see more fig-like characters and leathery development. Lots of sticky tannins. An ok wine but perhaps a little more tired than expected. Blend of 50% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 18% Cabernet.

Just so so fruit and falls apart a bit. I expected more polish.

Tonight I have the joy of tasting the 2018 Chateau Pichon Longueville Pichon Comtesse Réserve. A name change this vintage of their second bottling from the Comtesse de Lalande Réserve.

On the nose is rich fruit of black cherry, blackberry, black plum, black currant, anise, cocoa powder violets, pencil lead and dark rich soil.

On the palate is a complex blend of black cherry, blackberry, black currant, cassis, green bell pepper, oak, cedar chest, minerals and rich earth.

This beautiful wine is full boddied with a plush velvety mouthfeel, medium + acidity and medium + tight grainy tannins which leads you to a long dark fruit earthy finish. Please have a great week and stay healthy and safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

An absolutely fabulous 98 at its peak with some life left to go. Dark red core with very minimal bricking. At 23 years I expected this to be far more evolved but it is really beautiful. Nose of blackberry, cassis, crushed flowers, fresh coffee, with some green notes as well (peppers, tobacco and damp brush). Medium bodied with good depth and structure. Very nice. I wonder how the 98 comptesse is drinking these days?

Red-fruited, a gentle and quickly dissipating nose of berry liqueur and sloe gin, just a touch of old leather bound book. Some poached cranberry and a little dried powdered orange peel. A hint of smoke and wood. Salty finish with some phenolic bitterness. Nice... seems just on the other side of its peak.

46% Cabernet, 32% Merlot, 13% Cab Franc, 9% Petite Verdot
Medium deep ruby with the rim just going brick. Soft on the palate with medium (+) body, medium acidity and medium tannin - well-balanced, very elegant with black cherry, cassis, blackberry, tobacco - very fresh and aging shockingly well
