Château Petit Bocq
St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend
2022 vintage. A relatively new estate ( first vintage 1972, and bought in 1993 by Belgian MD Gaëtan Lagneaux, who sadly passed away at the age of 50 in 2012). His son Adrien has directed the estate ever since, and I believe his father would have been proud of him tasting this 2022. I don't know the exact blend for this vintage, but the vineyard is planted with 49% Cabernet Sauvignon, 48% Merlot, and 2% Petit Verdot. A little less colour compared to Coutelin-Merville tasted alongside , but more refined in both nose and taste. Abv. 13,5 %.

With its dense, somewhat chunky character, it’s a 2018 for sure. Showing lots of ripe Merlot plumminess, the nose also a bit of warm clay earthiness and underbrush notes. In the mouth it’s quite packed, with loads of plush, ripe fruit up-front. But the flavors also have a nice note of graphite as they progress. The tannins show in the back half of the palate, and they’re abundant but soft. Acids on the lowish side, but there’s a slight bitter note at the end that keeps it from being cloying. Give it a couple more years to settle in, but it’s not for the long haul.

Oct 18th, 2023Red raspberries on the nose morphing to black raspberries and cassis on the palate. Deep purple wine with an edge that is starting to go clear. Nicely integrated tannins. Finish is medium. Perhaps a hint of oxidation at the end of the finish. Nothing here to dislike.

Nov 9th, 2013Quite reserved, tight and withdrawn. This might be in a dead spot. Showing iron, mineral, wet earth and thats about all. Not much improvement on day two. Hold em if you’ve got em...

Oct 3rd, 2020Continue to show me how much I love Merlot-based wines. Starts out warm and plummy and I actually got a bit more spicy and a more crisp/Tart as time went on. Beautiful expression of the fruit.
