Another wine that appears to have stood still. The nose is complex and grainy, characterized by barrel toast, blackberries and a hint of white pepper.
Sweet on the palette with ripe tannins. Treacle, cloves, licorice and black olives. A deep textured wine with many more years ahead of it. This will also get better in 3-5 years.
Has potential to be great, but it's not quite there yet. I just prized open my case, so no rush with this.

Big shout out to @Ron R for his selection and generosity. I got started on my wine journey later in life and didn’t have birth year wines for my boys. This wine and vintage marks 21 years for our first son. Thanks again @Ron R !! Let this wine decant for three hours and it got better and better over the three hours. Licorice smell to start, modest cherry, currant. More fruit smells developed over time. Incredibly soft tannins with earth tones coming out as well. Not a fruit bomb like some of the CA wines and enjoy having different choices for special events.

Wonderful gift from my buddy @Ron R. Cork was perfect. Rhubarb, soy, young red berries and chopped dried tobacco leaves. 13% abv yet full bodied. Outstanding acidity. Perfect with a salty NY strip. Thanks RON!
