Château La Grange
Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend
Took a long time to open after 20 years. Plenty of Brett influence, but on the leather side, not unpleasant. Rich, dark cherry, fairly thin body, tannins are super mellow at this point.

Jun 10th, 2024There are some acts that are hard to follow. So is the case with the 06 Bordeaux vintage vs. 05. However, that is not entirely the case with the 06 Lagrange. Normally Margaux for rack of lamb, thought I’d try some St. Julien elegance and change it up a bit. Exquisite with the Allen Brothers Lamb Lollipops.
The fruits are, dry, ripe, ruby; blackberries, black raspberries, black plum, black raspberries, bright, dark cherries. Dry clay, semi-sweet lead pencil, charcoal, sandalwood, fresh tobacco notes, limestone powder, dry herb notes-bay leaf, dry river stone, dark, rich soil with dry leaves, a mix of Indian & Asian spices, some black licorice mixed with dark fruit cola, charcoal/volcanic ash, mix of semi-fresh to withering dark, bright florals framed in violets & lavender, really nice acidity and lush , rich, smooth, velvety, well balanced finish that last two-minutes. Happy Labor weekend from #ChateauIsbel

Vintage 1998 - powerfull, a difficult phase? Difficult to taste. Lots of bitters.

Nov 28th, 2017Lagrange is by far my favorite St Julien producer. This 2006 is extremely youthful with a relatively oaky entrance, a spicy red cherry mouth feel, and a long complex finish. This could be kept for at least 10 more years easily - and this is saying from my experience drinking a number of bottles from this magnificent chateau in the past year.

3 people found it helpfulDec 12th, 2014The nose is pretty yet slightly restrained, showing blackberry and plum, with hints of licorice and purple flowers. On the palate, soft textures are elevated by zippy acids with mineral-tinged red and black fruits, coming across as medium-to-light bodied and quite feminine, as fine tannins slowly saturate the senses. The finish is long and structured, focused on dark inner florals more than fruit, with a twang of savory spice and cheek-puckering tension. More time may be necessary here to gain some textural depth, yet it’s the lack of fruit that worries me the most.
