Elegant and balanced, but not as deep and nuanced as the better vintages.

Had alongside Leoville Barton '99 and this just didn't have the togetherness. Unbalanced. Bit hot. Bit too extracted. Wouldn't rush to drink it again

Not the chocolate bomb I remember from 6 years ago; somewhere along the way this wine hopped on the Funk Train. After decanting some of the barnyard blew off but the proverbial Bordeaux Dirt was ever present. There were hints of leather, pencil shavings and dried black fruit shrouded in savory herbs. There was some mocha notes on the finish; tannins were soft and well integrated.

Past its peak. Some tobacco, leather and some dark cherry licorice. Not bad but thin and lacking structure.

This is drinking great right now. Dark fruit, currant and minerals on the nose and palate. Slightly hollow on the mid palate however, but a joy to drink.

For a 20 year old St Estephe this Cos d’Estournel is sublime. Perfectly aged but shows a lot of youth throughout the hour opening with red fruit mixed in with leather and chalk. A good 35 sec finish. A classic Bordeaux that rocks! Kept from my Phd days ( Rodolphe this is the last one buddy) is surprisingly vibrant. happy birthday 🥳 Philippa.
