Château Cissac
Cru Bourgeois Haut-Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend
2020 vintage. A blend of 57,5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot, and 4,5% Petit Verdot. Medium-bodied, with fresh cassis fruit and a tannic structure with some rough edges. Will probably benefit from a bit more bottle age. Decent value at 15 euro. Abv. 13,5%.

Apr 22nd, 2024Already drinking exceptionally well, this 2016 Cissac is a great rendition of Haut-Médoc from a textbook year. Medium bodied, with bright cherry, blackberry and some cigar box notes. Tannins are supple - the estate only uses some new oak, and there’s plenty of Merlot in this blend - but good acidity ensures satisfying length and capability to age. The ABV of 13% keeps things fresh too. Drank over three nights, best on the first. At around £60 ib, I’ll be buying a case of this.

Apr 11th, 2020Dark peach and red rock with a not insubstantially watery rim. Lovely tertiary aromas of mushrooms, fresh earth, plumb and red pepper skins, and varnished oak. Still tannic - little fruit but long finish nonetheless. Not bad at all but best with food. From magnum.

Mar 20th, 2016Brought a couple of magnums of this to the inlaws for Christmas. A very pleasant food wine but not great - light, with nice musty almost Burgundian mushroom and forest floor scents. The acidity is masked by food so it went down a treat. An interesting, if not complex or invigorating wine.
